Joining
Wrenmoor Heath

Around forty places open each year across five categories. Every member plays the same heath from the same tees, and seven-day members have a say in how it is kept.

The Secretary’s

Most letters I receive before an application ask one of these seven things, so here they are with my answers. Anything else, ring me on 01632 960 418 or write to secretary@wrenmoorheath.co.uk.

Yours,

Helen Marsh

Club Secretary

Dear Secretary,

Is there a waiting list? I would want seven-day membership, and I would rather know now if it is a year or more.

Daniel Okafor, Weybridge

Read the reply

Dear Mr Okafor,

For Full seven-day there often is. Five-day, Intermediate, Country and Junior places are normally filled within the six-week election cycle, and Five-day members move across to seven-day in the order they applied, which is how many people start.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

Could I play the course before I decide? I only know it from the M3.

James Whitlock, Virginia Water

Read the reply

Dear Mr Whitlock,

Please do. Book a weekday visitor time, or ring me and I will arrange a round with a committee member at the members’ guest rate. Most proposers and seconders are found that way.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

If I join and my work later takes me abroad, how would I resign?

Richard Hale, Sunningdale

Read the reply

Dear Mr Hale,

Write to me by 1 March and you leave at the end of the subscription year on 31 March. Direct debits stop after the final instalment. I am afraid joining fees are not refundable.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

I am having a knee replaced next spring. Can members take a break for injury, or for work?

Fiona Carr, Ascot

Read the reply

Dear Mrs Carr,

Members of three years’ standing can apply for up to twelve months’ leave of absence at a reduced fee of £350, keeping their category and their place on the handicap system.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

I have played for three years but never had an official handicap. Do I need one before I apply?

Priya Raman, Woking

Read the reply

Dear Ms Raman,

Not to apply. You will need a handicap index to play in competitions, and if you do not have one I set up your England Golf record the week you are elected. Three cards marked by any member and you are away.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

We would like to join together. Is there a family or joint membership?

Sarah and Tom Ellery, Chobham

Read the reply

Dear Mr and Mrs Ellery,

Not as a single category. When two members of the same household join together, the second joining fee is halved, and children of members can join as Juniors without a proposer.

H.M.

Dear Secretary,

Is there any chance of a locker? I would rather not carry my clubs home every week.

Alan Pryce, Bagshot

Read the reply

Dear Mr Pryce,

Yes, in both locker rooms, at £60 a year. The lockers nearest the drying room have a short list of their own each spring; ask me when you are elected.

H.M.
